Sailun was set up in 2002 by senior professors from Qingdao University of Science and Technology. In 2022 it became the first listed Chinese tyre company to pass 20 billion yuan in revenue, with more than 75% of sales coming from outside China. Group revenue for 2025 was 36.8 billion yuan.
The group runs nine production bases, with three more under construction. In China, truck tyres come from Qingdao and Shenyang, and passenger tyres from Dongying, Qingdao and Weifang. The Tay Ninh plant in Vietnam makes truck, passenger and OTR tyres, mainly for Europe and North America. The Mexico plant produced its first tyre in May 2025, and the plant in Demak, Indonesia is in production and being expanded.
Sailun's EcoPoint3 compounds are made with a continuous liquid-phase mixing process developed by the group.

Sailun's European truck range carries EU tyre label grades and the three-peak mountain snowflake and M+S marks on listed models, and its plants are ISO 14001 certified. In North America the S605 EFT, S768 EFT, SDL70 EFT and S696 EFT are EPA SmartWay verified. Sailun was the first Chinese tyre company to join the World Business Council for Sustainable Development.
